Choose the SRT or VTT file with overlapping or touching subtitles.
Set the gap
Enter the Minimum gap in milliseconds or frames. Set Close gaps shorter than to the longest gap you want closed. Keep Fix overlaps on to repair overlaps.

When to use Fix gaps and overlaps
- Your validator reports overlapping subtitles.
- A broadcaster needs at least two frames between subtitles.
- Two subtitles touch and flicker in the player.

How do I fix overlapping subtitles in an SRT file?
Add the file, keep Fix overlaps on, and click Fix gaps and overlaps. Each subtitle that overlaps the next one now ends just before it.
What is a good minimum gap between subtitles?
Many broadcast style guides ask for two frames. At 25 fps that is 80 milliseconds, which is the default here.
Does this change when subtitles start?
No. Only the end of the earlier subtitle changes. Every start time stays as it was.
What if two subtitles must show at the same time?
Turn off Fix overlaps. Overlapping subtitles then stay as they are, and the tool handles only the small gaps.
Why were some subtitles not changed?
The earlier subtitle would have ended before it started. This happens when two subtitles begin almost at the same time. The result tells you how many.
Does the tool join or delete subtitles?
No. Every subtitle and all of its text stay in the file. Use the merge tools to join subtitles.
