Merge SRT files

Join two or more SRT or VTT files into one subtitle file.

How to merge SRT files

  1. Add your files

Drop all the parts into the box together or one by one. Use the arrow buttons to put them in the order of the video.

  2. Set where each part starts

Enter the time at which each part begins in the finished video in the Start at field. If you leave it empty, a part starts when the part before it ends.

  3. Download

Click Merge files, then Download. You get one file with all subtitles, numbered from 1.

When to use Merge SRT files

  • Your film is on two discs, and each disc has its own subtitle file.
  • You cut a long video into parts to edit it, and you subtitled each part alone.
  • A translator sent the subtitles for each episode part in a separate email.
  • You joined several recordings into one video for YouTube and now need one subtitle file.
  • A webinar was recorded in two sessions, and you need one file for the full recording.

Common questions

How do I combine SRT files into one long file?

Add the files in the order of the video. The tool moves the times of each later part and writes them all into one file.

How do I find the start time of the second part?

Use the length of the first video part, for example 00:45:12,000. If you do not know it, leave the field empty. The second part then starts when the last subtitle of the first part ends. That can be a few seconds too early, so play the join in your player.

Can I combine SRT subtitles with an MP4 file?

This tool joins subtitle files only. It does not change a video. To use the merged file with a video, add it in your player, in your video editor, or with FFmpeg.

Can I merge SRT and VTT files together?

Yes. The merged file has the format of the first file in the list.

Does the order of the files matter?

Yes. The file at the top of the list is part 1. Each file below it starts later. Move a file with its arrow buttons.

How do I merge two languages into one file?

This tool puts files one after the other. To show two languages together at the same time, use the bilingual subtitles tool.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The tool runs in your browser. Your subtitle file never leaves your computer.
