How to renumber subtitles
Add your file

Leave Start number on 1, or enter the number that your first subtitle must have.

When to use Renumber SRT
- A player skips subtitles because the numbers repeat or jump.
- You deleted several subtitles by hand and the numbers now have gaps.
- You pasted two files together and the numbers start again at 1 in the middle.
- One part of a longer film needs numbers that continue from the part before it.
- The file has many blank lines between subtitles and an importer reads it wrong.

How do I fix the numbering of an SRT file?
Add the file here, keep Start number on 1, and click Renumber. Every subtitle gets the next number in file order. Download the new file.
Do SRT subtitle numbers have to start at 1?
The standard form starts at 1 and goes up by 1. Most players ignore the numbers, but some import tools expect them to be correct.
Does this tool put the subtitles in time order?
No. It numbers the subtitles in the order that they have in the file. If some subtitles are out of order, use the Sort subtitles tool first.
Why does the new file have fewer blank lines?
The tool writes exactly one blank line between two subtitles. Extra blank lines from the old file are gone.
What are the sequence numbers in an SRT file?
Each subtitle starts with a number on its own line. The timing line follows it, and then the text. The number only names the subtitle.
Can I start the numbers at a value other than 1?
Yes. Enter any whole number in Start number, for example 251 for the second part of a film.
Is my file uploaded?
