Add your file
Choose an SRT or VTT file with many one-word or one-phrase subtitles.
Set the limits
Enter the longest pause to bridge in Maximum gap, the longest line in Maximum characters per line, and the longest subtitle in Maximum duration.
Download
Click Merge short lines. The result tells you how many subtitles were joined. Click Download to save the file.

Common questions
How do I merge two short subtitle lines into one?
Add the file and click Merge short lines. Two subtitles that are close in time become one subtitle, with the first text on line 1 and the second text on line 2.
Why did the tool not merge two of my subtitles?
It merges only when all four limits hold. The pause is no longer than the maximum gap. Together the texts fit on two lines. The merged subtitle is no longer than the maximum duration. The subtitles do not overlap.
Does the tool rewrap my text?
No. Each text stays on its own line. The tool does not move words from one line to the other.
How do I fix subtitles that have three lines?
This tool joins subtitles. It does not split or rewrap them. To get a three-line subtitle down to two lines, use the line breaker tool.
How is this different from merging continuation lines?
This tool looks at time and length only. The other tool looks at where a sentence ends and ignores the pause between subtitles.
